One life

Every Christian is born twice. The first time, life comes through parents. The second time, life comes through baptism.

Each birth, each life, brings its own bundle of gifts.

From our parents we get not just the colour of our eyes but the seeds of our attitudes.

From baptism we get not just entry into the Christian family but the seeds of faith.

The job of the early years is to start unwrapping the gifts both births have given us. Our experience of parents, teachers, friends, church, the parish-all nudge us into shaping some picture of who we are, what direction our life might take.

Those early years may suggest to us that our happiness is somehow connected to service, to giving.
Within that broad instinct may be the stirrings of a vocation to help others live the Good News.
A hint at a call to priesthood.
